你是堅持還是固執？
固執、堅持、頑固、有毅力、貫徹始終，
今天我們用英文討論之間的差別，用例句把情境學起來！
Set in one’s ways 固執己見
「設定在自己的路上」就是固執己見且不易改變，通常為貶義詞。
🗣️ 開口念例句
Amy is very set in her own ways when it comes to her health. Not even doctors can change her mind. Amy在健康方面非常有自己的方式，連醫生都無法改變她的想法。
As Eric gets older, he becomes more set in his own ways. 隨著Eric年齡的增長，他變得越來越頑固。
💡 那 stubborn (adj) 呢？意思跟 set in one’s ways 雷同，例如 My boss is stubborn about wearing a suit and tie to work. 我老闆對上班穿西裝打領太這件事很固執。
Adamant 堅定的
🔥相當被低估的聰明好字！堅定不變的，尤其形容一個人對某件事情特別強調或講究，中性偏向正面。不過看狀況可以婉轉地形容一個人固執（負面）。

Amy is adamant that you get off work on time. Amy 很堅持你準時下班。
You seem adamant about the deadline. Why’s that? 你對這個截止日很堅持，為什麼呢？
My sister is adamant about not posting photos of her children online. 我姐姐堅決不把她孩子的照片發佈到網路上。
Why is there a broken plate in the kitchen? -[Well…Grandma is adamant that we keep it.🤷🏻♀️] 為什麼廚房有一個破掉的盤子？這個嘛…奶奶很強調我們不能丟。（婉轉形容固執）
Insistent vs. Persistent vs. Consistent
以上三個常常被誤認為同義詞，雖然意義上有重疊性但用法上不同。
Insistent
堅持不變的，來自動詞 insist (v)，咬定、打死不變，態度較強硬。

Can you please cancel the appointment for me? -[Ok, if you insist.] 可不可以請你拜託幫我取消預約？好吧，如果你一定要的話。
Don’t worry about driving me. I will walk home. -[No, I insist.] 不用擔心開車帶我回家，我走路就好。不不我堅持。（這個情境也可以套用在搶結帳這種有點客套的行為）
Eric was very insistent that I call him in the morning, not at night. 他很堅持我早上打給他，不是晚上。
Persistent
執著不懈的，部分意思用法跟 insistent 類似。但另外用法指🔥持續很久不停歇。

He is persistent and would not stop. 他很執著不懈，是不會停止的。（≈ insistent）
🔥The rain has been persistent after the typhoon left. 颱風走了但是雨還是一直下個不停。
🔥How are your arms? -[They are getting better but the pain is persistent.] 你的手臂還好嗎？漸漸好轉，但是痛還是很持續（還是很痛）。
Consistent
如一、不變、貫徹始終的，通常是個正面好字，名詞 consistency 一制性也常見！

The parents are very consistent about their decision to homeschool their child. 這兩位家長對於在家自己教育孩子的決定非常一致不變。
The injury is consistent with a cut from a sharp knife. 傷口與被鋒利的刀割傷的情況一致。
The singer’s style has been consistent for the past 30 years. He is the icon or country music. 這位歌手的風格30年來始終如一，他是鄉村音樂的經典偶像。
To be a business owner, the least you can do is keeping the consistency of the quality of your products. 作為老闆，你至少該做到的是保持產品品質的一致性。
💡 補充片語：See something through 貫徹始終、在困難之中堅持到最後，例如 This is a difficult project but we need to see it through. （這個企劃很難但我們要堅持下去、貫徹始終）。
加分說法：Hardwired 根深蒂固的
wire (n) 電線金屬線，深深地焊接在腦海就是「根深蒂固」的說法，不可改變、與生俱來。

The idea of punctuality is hardwired in my mom’s brain. 準時這個概念在我媽腦海根深蒂固。（This is a true story…😂）
Being able to walk within hours after birth is a hardwired behavior in some animals. 對某些動物來說，出生後數小時內能夠行走是一種與生俱來的行為。
