Thanks for those who participated in the livestream last week, during which we covered code-switching, movies recommendations and yoga practice as well. Now it is time for a recap and review.

Vocabulary Highlight

less than desirable (adj) 較不理想或合意的

This is a pretty polite way to describe something that is not ideal, or worse than expected.

e.g. The return on investment (ROI¹) is less than desirable but it isn’t bad.

Scenario (n) 設想的場景、狀況、腳本

e.g. The worst case scenario is that I lose all the money.

e.g. The best case scenario is that I start making returns as soon as possible.

Demanding (adj) 要求高的、不容易的、難搞的、嚴苛的

e.g. Mrs. Potato is a very demanding teacher.

e.g. Sitting at a desk is not a physically demanding job.

Code switch (n. v.) 語言轉換；台灣俗稱的「晶晶體」

Code switching is a linguistic phenomenon describing people changing between 2 or more languages in a sentence or conversation.

e.g. Some people associate code-switching with high-income immigrant families. They carry the stereotype of being pretentious².

Salty (adj) 俗話指酸溜溜的、酸葡萄心態

e.g. One of the players on the team is salty about losing the game. He said someone cheated but it was not true.

Self-conscious (adj) 自我意識（過剩）的、自卑的

e.g. Some people say being self-aware is not a bad thing, but being self-conscious is less than desirable.

Deck (n) 商業用語指簡報，與 slides 同義

e.g. I am responsible for updating the deck before each meeting.

It follows the romantic story of a woman, 2ng generation Greek immigrant, and a tall & handsome school teacher who is NOT Greek. The innocent and relatable⁴ jokes between two cultures still ring very true until this day.

Yoga with Kassandra 瑜珈老師推薦

Kassandra is a Canadian Yoga instructor who made me finally commit to daily yoga practice. She is soft-spoken and not overly chatty, uses no click-bait⁵ titles and thumbnails, and best of all, she gives excellent cues. Her videos are beginner-friendly, but once is a while a power yoga practice can definitely make me sweat, too.

Her 10-min morning practice playlist is a great place to start.
