"Expect" 較專業的用法在這邊

Expect 的加分說法

你看過以下這些用法嗎？畫橫線的句子並不是錯誤，而是我發現句子裡面如果這樣使用 expect，語順更有條理👇學起來口語上多加運用，讓句型聽起來不呆板！

1. I am expecting a call. I am waiting for a call.

2. I wasn’t expecting you. I didn’t know you were coming.

3. I am expecting company. I am waiting for my friends.

4. I am expecting a package that requires my signature. I am waiting for a package that requires my signature.

5. George and Mary are expecting. Mary is pregnant. They will have a baby.

6. A little bump in the road¹ is (to be) expected. There will be a challenge in the road.

💡Pro tip: “expected” 尾音記得發音清楚 /-ted/ 的地方😉

Expect 不是期待，是寄望或認為會發生，沒有興奮感

1. I expected 20 people to show up, but only 4 of them came. = I thought² 20 people would show up.

2. My mom expected my brother to be a doctor, but he ended up opening³ a restaurant.

3. The society put some social expectations on women to perform certain tasks, like child rearing, cooking and such.

有興奮感、等不及應該這樣說

1. I can’t wait.

2. I can’t wait for the trio.

3. I am excited about the trip.

4. I am thrilled about something.

5. I am jumping up and down about it.

6. I am impatient about the upcoming trip.

7. She is jonesing up and down⁴ about the trip.

8. He is counting down the days to the trip.
