📢 Last call! Last call! Last call! 📢
Different kinds of “why”
Some argue that “why” questions can make people feel interrogated1, feel like they need to defend2 themselves. In this situation, you may not get good answers.
Take a look at the example below and see if you can sense the difference.
👇🏼
A: Why are you late? B: Well…
Instead of saying “why”, try:
A: What are the reasons why you are late? B: Today…
What are the reasons?
You are quitting? What are the reasons? (For what reasons?)
You pulled out of the investment a couple years ago. What were the reasons behind it?
What makes you say that?
You are never going back to Spain? What makes you say that?
A: The restaurant was not worth it. B: What makes you say that?
I wonder why…★
You mentioned that he was a “bad” person. I wonder why. (I wonder why you said that?)
I wonder why you stopped writing the book.
其實還有好多種模式可以問出被背後的原因,例如 how come、the thinking behind something 等等,我建議大家多多接觸 podcast。
最近聽了幾集的 No Stupid Questions(知識型對話)、 Glad we had this talk by Caroline Hirons (保養美妝知性節目),還有經典的 Hot Ones by First We Feast(名人吃辣雞翅訪談)深深感受到問題的重要性!
Asking questions does not mean you are stupid. 🤓
